Tories hold on to Sitwell

This week's only council by-election saw Tories hold off a Labour challenge in a marginal seat. The result at Sitwell, Rotherham Borough, South Yorkshire, saw a swing to Conservatives compared with May's main polls which were on the same day as the general election. The outcome is in contrast to metropolitan council contests last month in Walsall and Wolverhampton which showed double digit switches to Labour.

RESULT: Con 1213, Lab 864, Ind 252, Ukip 241, Lol Dem 98
(May 2010 - C 2,684, Lab 2,238, Ukip 793, Ind 751)
