In an interview with the Daily Telegraph's Mary Riddell, Nick Clegg tries to convince us he has principles.
"Does Mr Clegg get the concerns of Lib Dems who think he has sold the party out? “Yes, of course I understand anxieties. Politics is a highly tribal business.” Even so, as he points out, the decision to enter into Coalition attracted so much consensus that it was “almost North Korean ... Some have taken the decision with more enthusiasm, some with less. But if you are a party that has [called for] greater pluralism, you have to live by your own principles. So I would gently remind those colleagues who have misgivings that Coalition politics is the different politics we have advocated in the past.” Is that a rebuke to Simon Hughes, the Left-leaning Lib Dem deputy leader, who has suggested a backbench veto option for Coalition policies?"
Almost North Korean?! Read the full Telegraph article here. It's almost English.
