I have always maintained that as long as those two throwbacks to Mourinho's Chelsea, John Terry and Frank Lampard, play for England, they will slow down the whole game to their pace, dragging their team-mates with them. Well, now they've gone. And good riddance to them. I shan't be sad if I never see either of them play football again. Get Joe Hart in and we're off.
'Arry won't be 'appy
Shaky, as ever, but we're off. Adam Johnson breathes new fire into the belly of the animal and Jermain Defoe does what Jermain Defoe does. Why were people surprised to see him on the team-sheet? I certainly expected to see him on the score-sheet. Gerrard has added bounce as does Rooney, all benefiting from the demise of Messrs Terry and Lampard.
Aaah, life is sweet for England at the moment. Don't fuck it up, Capello.
